Ravenscar House

The Ravenscar Trust are working with the Canterbury Museum on a new home for the Ravenscar Collection of New Zealand fine and decorative arts, sculpture, designer furniture and classical antiquities. The 520 square metre single-story grand residence, designed by international award-winning architects, Patterson Associates, is currently under construction. Ravenscar House, is being developed and funded by the Ravenscar Trust to replace the original Ravenscar House at Scarborough, the former home of Trust benefactors Jim and Dr Susan Wakefield.

Aldersgate

The Aldersgate Centre was an initiative of the Durham Street Methodist Church. Aldersgate is the home of the Durham Street Methodists and our the Streets Ministry and other community activities. It also provides a base for others working locally and internationally for social justice, including Christchurch Methodist Mission and Christian World Service.

This project won a Gold Award and was the National Category Winner in the ‘Tourism and Leisure’ category at the 2021 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards. Project Manager Hayley Groves also won Highly Commended in the ‘Consultants’ category at the 2020 New Zealand Building Industry Awards for her work as Project Manager on the Aldersgate project.

John Knox Presbyterian Church – Redevelopment

The John Knox Presbyterian Parish is redeveloping their key corner site in Rangiora following the demolition of their earthquake-prone Church. The new facility will house a multipurpose auditorium, larger office facilities, a welcoming community foyer/lounge space and a commercial office space for a local wellbeing organisation.

Methodist Church of New Zealand Archives

The Methodist Church Archives were originally located in Christchurch Central, below the Church’s head office. The building was red zoned immediately after the February 2011 earthquake and later demolished. Following many years of archives being stored in temporary facilities, the custom designed Archives building was constructed, complete with temperature and humidity control and a large working space and viewing room.

St Marks Church - Strengthening & Redevelopment

The St Marks Church was constructed in parts over many decades, like many Churches in New Zealand. The Christchurch earthquakes provided an opportunity for the Parish to redevelop their facilities. The Stage 1 project included a new kitchen and bathroom facilities, plus strengthening works. Stage 2 saw a more significant remodel, with a welcoming entry foyer, parish offices, lounge and community room added.

Baring Square Methodist Church – Strengthening & Redevelopment

The 1930s Baring Square Methodist Church has been closed since the 2011 earthquake due to being earthquake prone and significantly damaged. The Parish have recently sold their adjoining land which housed their hall building to the Ashburton District Council, to provide much needed funding to repair and strengthen their Church. The project includes the strengthening of the existing brick Church and addition of new facilities including Parish offices, meeting rooms, kitchen and bathrooms.

Weteriana House

The Methodist Church head office was originally located in Latimer Square, Christchurch Central. The building was red zoned immediately after the February 2011 earthquake and later demolished. Weteriana House is the new comfortable and modern home of the Methodist Church national head office and includes two commercial tenancies on the upper floor.

St David’s Church – Redevelopment

St David’s Church comprises of four buildings constructed between the late 1800s and 1990s. The Parish are experiencing a period of growth and are looking to redevelop the Church site to better accommodate their needs with modern and welcoming facilities and provide for income generation.
